Trip to St. Louis

We just got back from our first trip to St. Louis to visit Aunt Amy, Uncle Jon and Cousin Ethan. Ethan is a doll and is quite the entertainment. We enjoyed watching him show off. Luke didn't want to be left out so started trying a new trick. He REALLY tries hard to roll from his back to his tummy. He gets over onto his side, but then can't quite get the rest of the way over. He gets very mad and I eventually help him, but it looks like he will be able to do it on his own pretty soon.

The dogs also got a taste of what it will be like in a few months when Luke can crawl and eventually walk. Ethan is about 15 months old and LOVES to chase the dogs around. They don't mind it when he is petting them nicely or giving them food, but they don't like it when he pulls their tails or legs. He did a good job of being gentle with them and by the end of the trip Bailey was even willing to sit by him.

This is Ethan giving Bailey a hug. I think the dogs got more hugs than I did.

Ethan trying on a monkey hat in Gymboree - it is very fitting for him because he is most definitely a monkey.

We had a great time and look forward to our next visit.

4 Month Appointment

Lucas had his 4-month appointment and is a BIG boy. He now weighs 16 pounds and is 26 1/2 inches long. He is in the 75th percentile for his weight and 90-95th percentile for height. His carseat only goes to 30inches in height, so we are going to have to purchase another one before he turns one. Yippy! He had to get 3 shots at the doctor and an oral medication. He did pretty good - he had a delayed cry after the first shot, but then calmed down pretty quickly. I gave him some Tylenol and then we were off to daycare where he took a 3 and a 1/2 hour nap. He NEVER does that. He got a pretty high fever that night (which they told me could happen), but was good as new when he woke up. On Friday, Lucas, Bailey, Baxter and Mommy all drove to St. Louis. Richard was working in St. Louis for the week and we had plans to visit my sister, her husband and our nephew. Although it is only a four-hour trip, we managed to stop 3 times all after the 1/2 way point. Luke has discovered his feet, is constantly grabbing them. Here are a few pics before we went to the doctor.

Thanks for the cute monkey outfit Linda!

One cool cat!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

After the Royals no hitter, Luke decided it was time to bring them good luck with his outfit. It worked for the Jayhawks, we will have to wait and see about the Royals.

Happy 4 Months!

Check out my new shades. Our friend Mandi told us about these sunglasses that are made especially for babies. Lucas hates the sun in his eyes, so thought we would give it a try. He did not like them at all at first, but I think he is getting used to them.

Luke turned 4 months old on the 14th. We have his 4 month appointment with the pediatrician on Thursday. My guess is that he weighs somewhere around 15 pounds and that he is about 26 inches long. I haven't even been close any of the other times that we have gotten him weighed and measured, so we will see. He likes to put everything in his mouth now. Everyone that sees the bottom part of his mouth says that they can see white spots and that he will have teeth soon. We'll see because I apparently didn't get teeth until I was around a year old.

My parents baby-sat for Richard and I to celebrate our anniversary. We went to McCormick & Schmicks for dinner and then saw Wicked at the Music Hall. We had a great time. My parents were taking Luke to a graduation party while they were baby-sitting, so I had instructions to dress him "super cute." I thought he looked like he was getting ready to hit the links in this outfit, so I added his golf socks with it. I do think he qualified for "super cute." Not that I am biased or anything...

Sunny Florida

We got back from Florida on Thursday. It was so nice to get away from KC even for just a few days. We left KC after horrible storms and 57 degree weather and arrived in Orlando to 90 degrees and high humidity. We really haven't had much of a spring yet, so the warm weather was definitely welcome in my book. Luke did OUTSTANDING on the plane ride. We fed him during take off and he slept the entire time and literally did not make a peep. I could tell that everyone was avoiding our row in the plane which suited us just fine because we had an empty middle seat. Once we got to Florida, we visited our friends Ana and John and their son Michael. Michael is abou 9 months old and is full of energy. It was neat to see what Luke will be doing in a few months. On Sunday, we went to Sea World and met up with our friends Amy and Steve and their son Xander. Although Luke didn't really enjoy Sea World that much, Richard and I had a great time. I hadn't been to Sea World since I was a kid, so didn't even know that they had any "rides." Luckily for Richard, they even had a roller coaster - here is a picture of Richard on the log ride at Sea World.

Richard is in the back row of this boat...

This is Luke before we went to Sea World. I was paranoid about him getting sunburnt, so he got used to wearing some hats.

Our hotel was within walking distance of Universal Studios City Walk. The City Walk has a number of restaurants, bars, etc. We went their for dinner several of the nights while we were there. Our first night, we walked by this kiosk that had Thing 1 merchandise from The Cat and the Hat by Dr. Seuss. My parents have taken to calling Luke "Thing 1" because my good friend from college, Erin, and her husband Kevin had a Luke about 3 weeks after us. So, my parents refer to their Luke as "Thing 2." When we passed by this, I couldn't resist getting Luke a Thing 1 outfit.

I had a training seminar on Monday and Tuesday, so Richard was on "Daddy Duty." Luckily, Amy's husband Steve was also on duty, so they were able to hang out together. Here are a few pictures of the boys hanging out.

Is he still a mini-me? Some think that he is starting to look more like me. I guess time will tell.

We got all ready to go to dinner with Luke in this cute "surf outfit." He peed all over it as we changed his diaper before we left. Good thing I brought him plenty of clothes.

Richard and Luke hanging out at Universal City Walk while I was in class.

When I found out that we were going to Florida, I bought Luke all of these cute swim trunks and shirts and hats. All of the sunblock says that it isn't for children under 6 months old, so I wanted him to be as protected as possible. But, then I asked the pediatrician and he told me it was fine to use the sunblock on him. But, since he had all of the accessories, he had to wear them.

We thought that Luke might have finally learned to nap after our trip to Florida. He took several 1 or 2 hour naps while we were there. But, when we got back home, he was up to his same tricks of 20-30 minute catnaps. We apparently wore him out this day.

May Day

Luke is starting his second month of daycare today. He seems to really like it - he smiles as soon as he sees his "teacher" and she starts talking to him. That makes me feel better about leaving him there. We almost survived the first month without an unscheduled trip to the pediatrician. On Tuesday, Luke's teacher calls me and tells me that he is crying uncontrollably every time that they put him down, he isn't eating well, he has a slight fever and he had blood in his stool. Of course I am freaking out, so I skip my afternoon meeting and take him to the pediatrician. When I get to daycare to pick him up, he was sleeping soundly (not crying uncontrollably) and as soon as he woke up as I was putting him into his car seat, he is smiling and laughing. Immediately, I am thinking that he isn't sick but since he has had a cold for about 4 weeks that I will take him anyway. Long story short, we get to the doctor and he tells me that basically it is just a cold and nothing to worry about and he will be fine. I'm sure he thinks I am a neurotic first time mom, but I guess it was better to be safe than sorry, right?

We leave for Florida on Saturday. I'm nervous about the flight, but it will be nice to enjoy some sunshine. I'll have lots of pictures to post when we get back. In the meantime, here are a few we have taken recently.

He is getting so good with being on his tummy. I think he almost likes it now.
